New Orleans Police Chief Wants Ban on Concealed Carry for Self-Defense

New Orleans Police Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick wants a gun-free zone in the city that would ban carrying for self-defense, even for licensed concealed carryers.

4WWL report Kirkpatrick said he is pushing for the zone in response to the Constitutional Carry Act signed by Gov. Jeff Landry (R) on March 5, 2024.

“New Orleans is unique. And this is not a one-size-fits-all bill. So what may apply and perhaps be perfectly acceptable in another part of Louisiana may not be effective across the city of New Orleans. “Yes,” Kirkpatrick said. “There’s too much gun violence in the city. We’ve made great progress. We’ll reverse the tide.”

She explained how much of the area she would like to see labeled as gun-free.

Internally, the route would be from Calliope to the Marigny River and then from Rampart down to the river. This is because it includes the main streets that tourists will pass through. From the Superdome to warehouses, entertainment areas, and convention centers. So it’s going to be more than just the French Quarter.

The bill aimed at accomplishing the creation of such gun-free zones is House Bill 498, sponsored by state legislators. Alonzo Knox (Democrat).

On July 27, 2023, Breitbart News reported that 94 percent of public mass shootings occur in gun-free zones.

The 2014 survey was updated in 2018 and again on July 6, 2019. Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) Indicated Between 1950 and the date of the survey, 94 percent of public mass shootings occurred in gun-free zones.

Attention — Hawkins: “America has a gun-free zone problem.”
