New Orleans terror suspect Shamsud Din Jabar planted two IEDs (improvised explosive devices) before the attack, but is now believed to have acted alone, said a counterterrorism deputy. Deputy Director Christopher Reier said at a press conference Thursday morning.
Raia acknowledged that 14 innocent people were killed in the attack, when Shamsud Din Jabar rammed a truck through the crowd and opened fire. At least 35 more people were injured in the attack.
Despite the confusion in the immediate aftermath of the attack, Raia declared: “This is an act of terrorism.”
“It was premeditated and it was a sinister act. This is obviously a serious incident, and as a result, we have a lot of information and tips pouring in from law enforcement, first responders and the public.” He said they were “aggressively” pursuing leads and “reviewing hundreds of hours of surveillance,” including video from both the French Quarter and other locations. ”
Laia gave a rough timeline, saying Jabbar picked up a rented truck in Houston, Texas, on Dec. 30 and drove to New Orleans on Dec. 31. The suspect also “posted several videos on online platforms declaring support for ISIS.” Authorities are recovering an ISIS flag at the scene.
“As you know, we recovered an ISIS flag from the back of the car. On his way to New Orleans, Jabbar declared his support for the terrorist group on social media, as I have previously stated. “FBI bomb technicians also “We recovered two IEDs inside the cooler, one at the intersection of Bourbon Street and Portland Street, and the other at an intersection about two blocks away.” pointed out that it was “incorrect information”.
“These are the only two functioning devices that we were able to recover. Both devices were safely disposed of at the scene,” he said, adding that “Jabbar left the device where it was found. He revealed that he had obtained surveillance footage that shows the scene.
He also said he did not believe anyone else was involved in the attack “at this time.”
“At this point, I would like to be clear that this is a separate position and separate facts, but we are not currently working with the exception of Shamsud Din Jabbar, the subject of whom you have already been briefed. “We have not assessed that anyone else is involved in this attack,” he said.

Reporters later followed up on this statement following suggestions from the previous day that more individuals were believed to be involved. Gov. Jeff Landry explained that facts change very quickly in these investigations.
“Everyone lives in a 15-second TikTok video. We think life works like a cell phone… Information changes. In fact, that’s why we have so much patience with media. That’s why we’re looking for it,” he said. “No one will abandon me [a] A 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle can be assembled in 5 seconds. ”
