New Orleans Meteorologist Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges
A meteorologist from New Orleans has been arrested on domestic violence charges after allegedly striking her girlfriend multiple times during an argument early Sunday morning, while the woman’s children were nearby.
The incident began when the girlfriend, who had been in a relationship with WDSU’s chief meteorologist Devon Lucy for four years, attended a festival. According to the arrest affidavit, Lucy left her there, about nine miles from New Orleans, without a way to return home. Consequently, the woman had her mother drive her back.
Upon arriving home, she found she couldn’t get in since she didn’t have a key, and had to use tools to pry open the door, where the argument escalated. Detectives reported that while the children were asleep on the living room sofa, Lucy entered the bedroom and assaulted her partner.
The woman later stated, “They wrestled, but she fought back in self-defense,” and deputies noted she had several small cuts and scratches on her upper body. Her children were reportedly present during the altercation.
Prison booking photos revealed that Lucy had visible cuts on her face. When questioned by police, she allegedly refused to provide her name or date of birth and declined to wear clothes or shoes. As a result, she was arrested for felony endangerment of a child and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Lucy was named WDSU’s lead meteorologist in August and has two children. The news outlet has reached out to her for comment.
