Kwanza Jones and Jose E. Feliciano Take Ownership of the San Diego Padres
Kwanza Jones, a well-known singer and songwriter, is stepping into the spotlight for a different kind of performance: she’s now one of the owners of the San Diego Padres. Alongside her husband, Jose E. Feliciano, they recently acquired the team in a staggering $3.9 billion deal from John Seidler and his family.
During the press conference held in San Diego, Jones expressed her eagerness about this significant venture in Major League Baseball. “We gonna win. We gonna win. We’re going to win, win it all,” she declared passionately, adding some enthusiastic hand gestures to emphasize her point. And yeah, there’s a hope it’ll happen sooner rather than later, which is exciting, right?
At one point in the gathering, she even stood up to snap a photo of the reporters in attendance with her phone. It’s not every day you see a new owner getting involved like that, but it adds a nice, personal touch to the whole event.
Padres fans are certainly eager for that “sooner rather than later” moment, especially since they’ve been anxiously waiting for the franchise to snag a World Series title. The team has made it to the World Series twice before, most recently in 1998, but they’ve yet to lift that coveted Commissioner’s Trophy.
Feliciano, who brings impressive credentials as an investor and managing partner at Clearlake Capital—a major private equity firm—joins Jones in this exciting new role. His net worth is estimated to be around $3.9 billion, so they seem well-equipped for the challenges ahead. Interestingly, he’s no stranger to the sports world; he was part of a group that acquired Chelsea in the Premier League back in May 2022.
Currently, there’s a glimmer of hope that Jones and Feliciano could witness postseason baseball in San Diego this year. The Padres are in a decent position, holding onto the third Wild Card spot in the National League with a record of 71-61. They even have a two-game edge over the Arizona Diamondbacks as the regular season winds down, with 30 games to go.
