Dylan Lopez Scores Big with Fighting Tomcats
Dylan Lopez is ready to take his soccer skills to the next level.
Recently, the Fighting Tomcats, a new soccer club on Long Island, signed the 16-year-old star from Conechot High School, making him the youngest member of the team.
“They definitely have more experience than I do,” Lopez shared shortly after finalizing his contract with the National Premier Soccer League team, which plays at Hofstra University.
He expressed that playing alongside older teammates will challenge him and help him adapt to a higher level of play, adding that he dreams of showcasing his talent in Spain one day.
This milestone for Lopez is part of a broader vision laid out by Jim Kilmeade, the club owner and brother of Fox News host Brian Kilmeade. Jim believes that the Tomcats can create pathways for players to launch successful careers in Europe, and he’s enthusiastic about developing a free youth academy on Long Island.
Interestingly, Lopez’s arrangements allow him to balance this opportunity without restricting his participation with Atlantic United, a competitive travel team, or a team at Connets Court next fall.
“It’s a unique chance you don’t typically find around here,” Lopez remarked, reflecting on how European players usually have the upper hand when it comes to such opportunities.
Now, as he heads to Sacred Heart University, Lopez has a platform to demonstrate his skills on a much larger stage, bringing excitement to his family, including his mother and twin brother.
Lopez shares a friendly rivalry with his brother, who is just a minute older, saying, “We always push each other during games. It’s been really beneficial—and he’s super excited for me.”
After receiving the news, Lopez had to take a break from his job at Stella Trattoria in Blue Point to celebrate this achievement.
“I think everyone will be surprised. It’s going to be an exciting year,” he said, looking ahead optimistically.
