‘New York City is about to get a lot safer’

Incoming border czar Tom Homan praised New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday after a meeting at Gracie Mansion to discuss the immigration crisis, predicting the Big Apple is “becoming much safer.”

“It went very well,” Homan told Fox News host Sean Hannity about the meeting, adding that he spoke with Adams for “over an hour.”

“He understands that. And today, as mayor of New York, he proved he cares more about public safety than politics,” said the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The in-person meeting between Mr. Homan and Mr. Adams was “great,” according to the incoming Border Emperor. AP

Homan, who was ordered by President-elect Donald Trump to carry out the largest deportation in U.S. history, said Adams is eager to assist ICE in ridding his city of danger.

“He wants to help ICE take criminal threats off the streets. He wants to help ICE look for national security threats. He wants to help ICE take criminal threats off the streets. He wants to help ICE look for national security threats. “We want to help find missing children, many of whom will be within the city,” Homan said.

“He wants to see [ICE] “Rather than go back to Rikers Island and put the community at risk by releasing the bad guys into society, we're going to arrest them in the safety of the prison,” he added. “He wants law enforcement officers and police departments to release criminal aliens to us, not to the streets.”

The future border czar also indicated that Adams was interested in learning more about “how ICE does its job” and the “obstacles” that exist with the agency in New York City.

Mr. Adams, 64, vowed after the meeting to use his executive powers to “go after dangerous immigrants and asylum seekers who commit acts of violence.”

“We're not a safe haven for people who commit acts of violence. We're not going to do that to people who are citizens, and we're not going to do that to illegal aliens,” the mayor said. He said this at a press conference.

Homan also discussed the brutal murder of Adams and Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, and that her killer, Jose Antonio Ibarra, an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, was in New York City before the heinous act. He also pointed out that they had discussed how he had come into contact with the law. .

“We talked about Laken Riley's killer being arrested here in New York City on child endangerment charges,” he said. “If the circumstances had been different, ICE could have detained him instead of releasing him.”

Homan said a productive meeting with Adams would have a “domino effect” and other mayors shaken by the surge in illegal border crossings under President Biden would soon want to meet with him. I predicted it would be.

“I left the meeting feeling very good and we will continue to have discussions,” Homan said, adding that staff will also meet to “work out the details.”

“But I think New York City is becoming a lot safer,” Homan said. “I think New York City is trying to send a strong message.”

Earlier this week, the soon-to-be border official said sanctuary city Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, both Democrats, have pledged to protect immigrants from deportation. expressed disdain for.

“Chicago is in trouble because the mayor and the governor are horrible,” Homan reportedly said Monday at a holiday party hosted by the Law and Order PAC and the Northwest Side Republican Club.

Homan told Hannity that he hopes Johnson, Pritzker and other sanctuary city supporters will follow Adams' lead.

“I would like the Mayor of Chicago, the San Diego City Council, and Governor Pritzker to take a page out of Mayor Eric Adams' scenario, because he has an ex-cop coming out of him today. He really cares. “We're talking about public safety and he's putting politics aside,” Homan said.
