New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to visit Trump at the White House in surprise trip

Mayor of New York City to Meet with Trump

New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani is set to have an unscheduled discussion with President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, as confirmed by sources. This meeting is expected to focus on housing concerns, particularly those impacting New York City, along with possible talks on immigration matters.

This isn’t Mamdani’s first visit; he last met Trump in November 2025, right after securing his position as mayor. Their friendly rapport was quite surprising to many, given the tensions that occasionally characterize their public interactions. During that earlier meeting, Trump acknowledged Mamdani’s impressive electoral victory against formidable opponents.

“We both want what’s best for this city,” Trump remarked back then, emphasizing the common ground the two leaders share on vital issues.

However, there’s been a mix of opinions leading up to this meeting, especially from White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt, who labeled Mamdani a “communist.” She noted that Trump’s door remains open to leaders across the political spectrum.

After their meeting, Trump and Mamdani appeared optimistic during a press conference. While Trump remained seated, Mamdani stood and answered questions about their future collaboration, highlighting shared goals focused on affordability and reducing living costs for Americans.

Interestingly, reporters probed Mamdani regarding his past comments labeling Trump as a fascist. Mamdani hesitated before Trump humorously encouraged him to just agree, showing a somewhat light-hearted acknowledgment of their differing views.
