“I’m disappointed, frustrated and angry.”
New York City Public Schools Chancellor David Banks described how he felt after taking the “distance learning test” that officials decided to give kids on Tuesday in lieu of a snow day off.
Millions of public school children also felt “disappointed, frustrated, and angry” when they were told they would be learning “remotely” instead of checking the weather forecast and going to the park to build snowmen. There is no doubt that it was.
New York’s weather wasn’t apocalyptic, but for a city currently short on public funds, a half-day storm was enough to close schools.
It was once one of the happiest days of the year for the 1.1 million children attending the city’s 1,800 public schools. But now, with New York implementing a “North No Day” policy in 2022, the Big Apple is making one last attempt to absolutely kill the city’s atmosphere.
And those attempts have worked, even “distance learning” has failed.
The effort was called a “test,” but the city failed.

“Like I said, this was a test. I don’t think we passed this test,” Banks said at a news conference Tuesday, a perfect metaphor for distance learning. .
report On Tuesday morning, reports of parents and students having trouble signing on to the remote learning platform began to surface, but the city apparently went to “great pains” to prepare.
The bank noted that the platform it is running on, IBM, is “not ready for prime time.” Mayor Eric Adams (D) also criticized and lamented the platform. [IBM] In the same way. “
Banks added, “We will try harder to do better next time.” (stop it.)
City parents have criticized the snow day ban since it was introduced in 2022. pointing out Children “will miss out on one of the only good things about cold weather,” he said, adding that the decision “denies families the magic of snowy days.”
In a column published by a parent, she points out that, according to Harvard University, distance learning causes “tantrums, anxiety, and decreased emotional management skills, especially among young children in elementary school who are learning remotely.” There is. Studies she cites show that playing outside on snowy days has the opposite effect on children’s moods.
“I grieve for everything my daughter lost in her formative years, between ages 4 and 6, because of the pandemic. She doesn’t remember what life was like before wearing a mask. Or getting a swab for a rapid test. Or that people once shared food. Or that children blew out the candles on their birthday cakes (now everyone makes cupcakes). Or maybe her grandparents were doing better before the coronavirus isolation,” her mother, Amy Klein, wrote. She said, “She wishes she didn’t have to lose her snow day either.”
Banks joked when announcing the new rules for 2022. There will be no more snow days, but that will be good for you! ” The experts strike again.
Big Apple Mayor: “This is not Eric’s theory or logic” Said at that time. “This is the logic of all the experts I’ve heard.” Maybe that’s the problem.
But this great idea, ostensibly to prevent children from contracting a harmless virus, closed schools and parks needlessly (!!) and robbed children of all the joy for the past few years. You have to keep in mind that it is from the city. . That’s because the “logic” of “professionals” says so.
And now it’s even more of the same. Maybe it’s time to stop relying on “experts” to raise our children.
