New York ‘Doing Everything They Should Do’ by Tipping Off Illegals

In Thursday's edition of NBC's “Meet the Press Now,” Congress' Hispanic Caucus Chairman, Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), has announced that the Department of Justice over personal law when immigration authorities request and provide data from the DMV. Responded to the lawsuit. “The state does everything they need to do,” he said, driving licences for illegal immigrants.

Espaillat began saying that those convicted of violent crimes should be deported.

Host Peter Alexander asked: “As you know, the Justice Department lawmakers, the Department of Justice, have filed civil lawsuits against New York and some of its civil servants over policies relating to immigration that have come to New York, after being sworn in. At her first press conference, we heard from Attorney General Pam Bondy, who attacked New York state law that allowed undocumented immigrants to receive driver's licenses, and federal immigration agencies said. Their information that requires DMV to notify those individuals if they request. So, I would like to serve you in this civil case from the Department of Justice. They are justified in the way the state governs. Do you think you have a problem?

Espaillat replied. “No, I think the state is doing everything they need to do. In fact, if someone commits a violent crime, once again, federal authorities may have access to that information, but that's not violent. That's not the case when it's a crime. Again, between a violent person, a violent felon, and someone who made a small mistake every day in a city or state in New York. There's a difference. I don't think that people who made non-violent mistakes on a particular day should be subject to deportation, especially if they're splitting their families. This is bad for New York and bad for the country. There is already a law in the book that says that if you commit a violent crime, you are going to be arrested, and you go to trial and federal authorities. If you are notified and found guilty, you will be subject to deportation.”
