Odell Beckham Jr.’s Quick Return to the Giants

Odell Beckham Jr.’s time back with the New York Giants was brief, maybe a bit too brief. The 33-year-old wide receiver joined the Giants this June, which felt like a nostalgic homecoming for him, considering they picked him 12th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. However, it seems his second round with the team will end after just three games this season.

The NFL announced his expected release via social media, which is quite a turn of events. It’s surprising, really. Just days after the Giants’ victory over the Tennessee Titans—where he finally got his first target of the regular season—Beckham will leave without a single catch to his name during this stint.

In case you didn’t know, Beckham played the first five years of his career with the Giants and quickly became a franchise star alongside quarterback Eli Manning. He even achieved over 1,000 receiving yards in four of those five seasons, which is quite remarkable, I think.

After his time in New York, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns before the 2019 season and spent three seasons there. Then he had brief tenures with the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphins between 2021 and 2024.

Right now, the Giants are struggling, especially with their offense. They’ve lost their starting quarterback, Jaxson Dart, for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury he sustained during a game against the Rams. That must put them in a really tough situation.

In the midst of this, Jameis Winston stepped up as the Giants’ quarterback, leading them to a gritty 12-7 win over the Titans in a very rainy game at MetLife Stadium. And just this Monday, the Giants traded for quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings, giving away a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Hopefully, that works out better for them moving forward.
