A New York state prison was placed on lockdown after three security guards were attacked and injured after concerns about a shortage were reported.

The New York State Department of Corrections (DOCCS) has announced that Collins Correctional Facility in Erie County has been blocked following an early morning incident on Wednesday. The Albany Times Union reported.

The incident occurred around 1am when three dorms were taken over by inmates and staff were removed, a union official with the New York State Corrections Officer and Police Charity Association told the outlet.

According to the outlet, the situation included the use of force, leading to recovery of two mobile phones.

Other inmates in the dorm reportedly were upset and tried to check on inmates calling when the altercation occurred.

The facility's staff and supervisors successfully abolished the situation, and the inmates returned to their cube.

Due to various potential threats, the outlet said staff members safely left the three dorms and the hostages were not taken.

No injuries have been reported among the inmates.

“The Collins Correctional Facility is closed due to staff safety and security and the incarcerated population,” the agency said in a statement. “All staff and incarcerated individuals are explained and safe.

Kenny Gold, Western Regional Vice President for New York State Correctional Officer & Police Charity Association (Nyscopba) told the outlet that three corrections officers suffered minor injuries.

The outlet also reported that DOCCS commissioner Daniel Maltasquero III announced earlier in the week that he had announced a permanent staffing change brought about by the “chronic shortage.”

“We need to do a comprehensive review of each post, ordering posts, and explanations of obligations. We need to identify where we can eliminate and/or reorganize posts and related obligations.”

“This exercise cannot be done in a vacuum. It will need to attract local union representatives. To achieve the required staff reduction, the ultimate improvement in the work-life balance of the staff will be improved, and overall There will be a safe facility.”

“Collins is so understaffed and screaming for help,” Gold told the outlet.

“They don't have enough staffing, so they're always mandating people for triple shifts,” Gold added. “My thoughts and prayers are with everyone there right now, including the CERT team and the crisis team.”

WRGB reported Recent past incidents at the facility raised concerns after nine officers were injured in the June 12 incident. Less than two months later, 11 officers were hospitalized after attempting to help an inmate on August 4th, and after contacting the substance.

Fox News Digital contacted the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the New York State Correctional Officer & Police Charity Association, but was not immediately responded.
