New York Jets’ Cornerback Kris Boyd Shot in Manhattan
Kris Boyd, a cornerback for the New York Jets, was shot in the abdomen early Sunday following a confrontation outside a restaurant in Manhattan.
Currently, Boyd is reported to be in critical but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital, according to information from the New York City Police Department.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. ET outside the Say Less restaurant on West 38th Street. During the altercation, the assailant fired two shots at Boyd before fleeing the scene in a BMW X6 SUV.
A silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach also left the area shortly after the shooting, as reported by local media.
No arrests have been made yet, and authorities are conducting an investigation into the matter.
“We are aware of the situation with Kris Boyd and have no further comment at this time,” a representative for the Jets stated.
Jermaine Johnson, a linebacker for the Jets, took to social media to express his concern, asking others to pray for Boyd and his family.
“Everyone please send prayers to my brother and teammate Chris Boyd and his family!!!” Johnson wrote on Twitter.
Former NFL player Jack Brewer also commented on the incident, expressing his worries about safety in New York City. He pointed out that the current environment makes it increasingly dangerous for athletes to be out late.
“Today, New York City is even more lawless… Teams invest millions of dollars in their athletes, and they have no business operating in the middle of the night in a lawless city,” Brewer remarked.
Boyd is currently in his first season with the Jets after signing a one-year contract worth $1.6 million. Previously, he was drafted in the seventh round by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 and played four seasons there before spending time with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.
