New York May Be Reddening, as Donald Trump Leads in Traditionally Blue District

Former President Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden in New York districts that Biden won in 2020, according to an internal poll by McLaughlin & Associates.

investigation Inspected New York’s 4th District is traditionally Democratic, but in this election, Long Island Republican Rep. Anthony D’Esposito led Democratic candidate Laura Gillen, 45% to 38%, and nationally Trump beat Biden in the district by 7 percentage points, 51% to 44%.

This may be a sign that New York is turning red, as Biden solidly won the district in the 2020 presidential election.

Notably, this investigation was conducted May 21-23, 2024, before a Manhattan jury convicted Trump on all 34 charges in his business records trial. This is important because national and statewide post-conviction investigations have shown that not only did the conviction not hurt Trump, but it may have helped put Biden ahead.

Breitbart News reported:

According to the survey, economistA YouGov survey conducted shortly after the Manhattan jury returned the guilty verdict asked voters, “Who do you plan to vote for in the November 2024 presidential election?”

Overall, 42% said they would vote for Trump and 40% said they would vote for Biden – a two-point difference. It’s worth noting that Trump and Biden were tied at 42% approval in early June. In other words, the Manhattan jury’s guilty verdict in the controversial business records trial of the former president has not negatively affected his approval rating. In fact, Trump’s approval rating has remained stable and Biden’s has slightly declined.

The Signal also released a national poll with similar results: Trump leads Biden by two points nationally, with 47 percent of the vote in head-to-head polls to Biden’s 45 percent. When third-party candidates are included, Trump still leads Biden by three points, with 41 percent to Biden’s 38 percent.

The trend has been consistent across states: A Minnesota poll in June, for example, showed Trump narrowly ahead of Biden in Democratic-leaning states, and in May, Trump drew a crowd of more than 100,000 people in Democratic-leaning New Jersey.

The McLaughlin & Associates poll was conducted among 400 general election voters in New York’s 4th congressional district. Republican National Committee (RNC) Co-Chair Lara Trump is among those who say the mainstream media’s tactic of calling Trump a “convicted felon” is simply ineffective.

“I know the mainstream media loves to call Donald Trump a convicted felon. That’s literally all they’ve ever relied on. Obviously, it hasn’t worked. His approval ratings actually went up immediately after the verdict,” she said, adding, “His approval ratings have gone up five or six points since then.”

“So whether it’s a suburban woman, whether it’s a Black voter, whether it’s a Hispanic voter, everybody’s life is suffering right now and people want life to get back to normal. They want their country back. They want their lives back. They want a peace deal in the Middle East, not a war in the Middle East. And they know who brought that about. And I think that’s why they’re going to vote for Donald Trump,” she predicted.
