New York realtor dismissed for comparing Zohran Mamdani to Hitler and suggesting City Hall will broadcast Muslim prayer calls.

A prominent office rental broker in the city has been dismissed after making a controversial comparison of the incoming socialist and Muslim mayor, Zoran Mamdani, to Adolf Hitler. Furthermore, he expressed concerns regarding Islamic prayers possibly being audible from City Hall.

Scott Panzer was let go by JLL Real Estate Services on Wednesday following the distribution of inflammatory emails to his coworkers, according to reports.

Earlier, Peter Regardi, the president of JLL’s New York office, addressed employees, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration in light of the new mayor’s election.

In his email, Panzer questioned whether others also found parallels to historical comments made in Europe around 1938. He reminded colleagues of how those sentiments played out for the world, specifically referencing Hitler’s regime.

He went on to share a personal anecdote about visiting Istanbul, mentioning that while he can tolerate hearing daily Muslim prayers during his travels, he doesn’t want that to become a daily occurrence in New York City, which he suggested might be on the horizon.

This memo was intended to ease tensions at JLL following Mamdani’s election, which had reportedly ruffled some conservative business leaders’ feathers. However, Panzer’s remarks quickly garnered internal backlash, being labeled as Islamophobic by many staff members.

He was terminated within hours of sending his email.

A company spokesperson confirmed Panzer’s departure from JLL, stating that his views did not align with the organization’s values.

Panzer has yet to respond to media inquiries regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, Regardi’s initial communication was focused on encouraging cooperation under Mamdani’s administration. He urged colleagues to give the new mayor a chance, suggesting that those with doubts might be surprised by his leadership.

Panzer’s termination highlights a swift decline for a key player in Manhattan’s real estate market who had over 16 years with JLL, where he managed significant transactions.

The incident unfolded during a period of adjustment within New York’s real estate sector, as Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist, embraced policies advocating for rent freezes and social housing initiatives.

In his victory speech, Mamdani vowed to create a more equitable city, signaling a robust approach towards landlords and developers.
