Ban said ski patrol cleared her of a concussion, but she felt a headache and decided to go to the hospital with her husband, Jet Cain, for a CAT scan.
“I got in a taxi with Jett and within 30 minutes he was told he had a brain bleed and needed to be airlifted to a trauma hospital,” she said. “The last thing I remember was being intubated after emergency craniotomy and waking up with Jett by my side.”
Ban's son Sebastian confirmed his mother's death in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
“To my mom's followers,” Sebastian began his post on Ban's Instagram page. “My mother passed away on Monday. I know she wanted to share her journey after the accident and brain surgery, so I wanted to post one last time to share the news with those who supported her. I thought they would appreciate sharing.”
“Many of you were following my mother, but you never had the chance to know her or meet her in person,” he continued. “I would like to take this opportunity to tell you who my mother really was. She was and is my best friend, the best mother I've ever had, and someone who cares about everything. It’s a person.”
“She always had a smile on her face, even during the difficult times of her recovery,” Sebastian added. “She is a fighter to the end and the strongest woman I know. She has been the funniest and coolest mother I could ever ask for. She has supported me, my father, and my entire family throughout her life. took care of me.”
“She may be gone now, but we will do everything we can to make sure she is never forgotten and her life celebrated in the way she deserves,” Ban's son said.
Sebastian concluded his post. “As a final message to my mother, I would like to say that I will miss you forever, but I would like to end with the words that my mother always told me: 'Mom, I love you more than life itself.' I think so.”
