New York Teacher Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of Student

A New York teacher has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing a 16-year-old student at a school for special needs. Sandy Carrazas Pines, 36, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge John P. Cronan.

The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, who stated that Carrazas Pines engaged in illegal sexual activity with the student, who attended a city-funded school in Yonkers.

Between November 2022 and February 2023, Carrazas Pines, a former teacher in New York City, allegedly developed a romantic relationship with the student. Prosecutors indicated that she used her phone to set up sexual encounters, utilizing texts, video chats, and even live-streamed explicit behavior.

It was reported that during these discussions, Carrazas Pines questioned whether she and the student should “finish it,” which hints at the nature of their interactions.

Authorities noted that she encouraged the student to leave school for a day and would meet him at various locations in the Bronx, Yonkers, and Staten Island for sexual activities.

Additionally, Carrazas Pines sent sexually suggestive messages and photos to the student, frequently instructing him to delete any evidence of their exchanges.

Clayton expressed the community’s outrage, emphasizing that such exploitation by educators is unacceptable. He stated that Carrazas Pines had betrayed her position and coerced the teenager into sexual relations through explicit communications.

In March 2023, Carrazas Pines was terminated from her position at a nonprofit-run school. Following her arrest, she was initially held for violating bail conditions after attempting to contact another former student shortly after his 18th birthday.

Her behavior raised alarms, with her own legal representatives labeling it as “trouble” at the time.
