Military experts say Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor, “misrepresented factors” and exaggerated his own military service. The New York Times.
The Post interviewed four military experts who would not use the term “stolen heroism,” but who agreed that Walz has not been completely honest about his military record.

Doug Sterner, a military historian who helped draft the Stolen Military Awards bill, acknowledged that Waltz was “inaccurate” when he described his own rank as “retired sergeant major.”
Anthony Anderson, a retired Army sergeant who runs the website Guardian of Valor, said: Times “There is reason to believe he is exaggerating his record to gain voter support.”

of Times The paper also noted that Waltz never served in Afghanistan, but did not correct others when they called him an “Afghanistan veteran.” The paper reported that in 2016, a TV host described Waltz as a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, to which Waltz nodded in agreement.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), herself a retired National Guard reservist, falsely said on ABC News’ “This Week” that Walz was a retired master sergeant and called Republicans who questioned his lies “despicable.”
“This man served 24 years in uniform. He’s a retired master sergeant. I’m pleased to have a retired master sergeant in the vice president’s situation room as we go through issues of conflict around the world. It’s great to have that experience,” she said.
