Tourists Fatally Shot in Puerto Rico
According to police, two tourists from New York were tragically killed while visiting Puerto Rico for a Bad Bunny concert.
Kevin Marles, aged 25, was shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning in La Perla, a neighborhood in San Juan known for its violent past. The incident occurred at a nightlife spot referred to as a “refuge for abused men.” Reports indicate that, during filming for a project, an altercation broke out, leading to gunfire that struck Marles and at least two others. Unfortunately, Marles later died at a local hospital, as confirmed by Detective Sergeant Arnardo Lewis.
Two other individuals, family members in their mid-40s, remain hospitalized.
Lewis mentioned that Marles had recently arrived in San Juan to attend a concert. However, details regarding the shooting are scarce, and authorities have not released any description of the suspect involved.
“There’s hardly any information right now,” Lewis stated.
La Perla, once notorious as a heroin distribution hub, has experienced a high level of violence over the years. For example, in 2011, federal agents conducted a major raid in the area, resulting in numerous arrests.
In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help cover Marles’ funeral costs. The campaign describes him as a source of inspiration for his young son and a devoted friend to those who knew him.
The heart-wrenching loss has left a significant void for his family, who had been eagerly anticipating his future plans, including a proposal to his girlfriend this fall. “Family was central to everything he did,” a statement noted, emphasizing the gap his passing has created in their lives.
