New Zealand police have successfully retrieved a diamond-encrusted Fabergé pendant after an unusual six-day waiting period. This situation unfolded when a suspect, believed to be involved, reportedly handed over the pendant while in custody.
A 32-year-old man allegedly swallowed around $19,000 worth of rare items during a theft at Partridge Jewelers in downtown Oakland on November 28. Following his arrest, authorities kept a close watch on him, as per reports from the Associated Press.
Detective Inspector Gray Anderson mentioned that since the man was already in police custody, monitoring him was essential under the circumstances. Initially, when the police apprehended him, they realized he had ingested the precious items, leading to a 24-hour surveillance operation to see if he would naturally expel them.
This particular pendant is a limited edition inspired by a Fabergé egg featured in the 1983 James Bond movie, *Octopussy*, with only 50 pieces ever made. It is crafted from 18K gold and adorned with 183 diamonds and two sapphires. The 3.3-inch locket intricately reveals an octopus made of 18K yellow gold, embellished with white diamond suckers and black diamond eyes, based on the store’s description.
The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, neither admitted to nor denied the theft when he appeared in court on November 29. He has been in custody since then, with a police officer by his side while awaiting the pendant’s recovery. Another court appearance is scheduled for him in Auckland District Court on Monday.
