Concerns About Newark Liberty International Airport Safety
Newark Liberty International Airport is facing serious safety concerns for travelers.
“It’s not safe. It’s not a safe situation for people flying,” a Federal Aviation Safety employee reportedly informed NBC News correspondent Tom Costello.
This was quite an unexpected statement; he mentioned, almost casually, to avoid Newark entirely.
Currently, this airport, the second busiest in the New York City region, has been dealing with multiple days filled with delays and cancellations, seeing around 24.3 million passengers.
The Federal Aviation Administration has criticized the airport’s shortfall of air traffic controllers as well as ongoing runway construction.
Reports say Newark has seen a 20% reduction in its staff in recent weeks, which is quite alarming.
In light of the chaotic situation, United Airlines, the primary carrier operating from this hub, has made the difficult decision to cancel 35 round-trip flights every day. They say it’s necessary “to protect our customers.”
Moreover, a recent map detailing flight delays indicates that there are still two-hour waits for inbound flights to successfully land.
