Hello, hello, hello and welcome to coverage of Spurs’ trip to the north east. Both sides reside on four points after two matches but it’s the visitors who have had more fun this season, having put four (!) past Everton last weekend. Newcastle are still waiting to fire, perhaps still moping by the bedroom window over their failed pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi. Crack open a tub of ice cream, put on When Harry Met Sally and just get over it, folks.

The good news for the hosts? They’ve had a great time against Spurs at home over the last couple of seasons. In April it was a 4-0 win for Newcastle at St James’ Park, the year before it was a 6-1 rout, Alexander Isak bagging a brace on both occasions. He’s still waiting to open his account this term; today feels like the day for it.

Justin Perry's keen observations.
“I don't think it's particularly healthy for a team like Newcastle to not have a lot of under-12 numbers on the backs of players on the pitch. Or maybe it's just very old-fashioned.”
“I think there are only a limited number of superstars in their 20s and 30s who are happy to play in a game with just a random jersey number…”
A reflective email from Maxime Doneux. “These days, players spend as much time in the gym as they do on the training ground, and it feels like the more aesthetically pleasing players are being replaced by the hard-working super-athletes. We're seeing fewer Jay-Jay Okochas and Eden Hazards performing flip-flaps, roulettes and nutmegs.”
“Among the players competing from today, who do you think embodies a more artistic style of game?”
I say to you, the reader. He's clearly a machine, too. Though he's not playing today, there's a lot of aesthetic pleasure in the way Kevin De Bruyne strikes the ball. Of the 22 players on the field today, there's an artistic brilliance in James Maddison's play.
Manager Ange Postecoglou said Mickey van de Ven was not at 100% despite training this week. And he was keen to use Dragusin, with Pape Sarr brought in to provide “midfield running”.
Warm greetings and thanks to Gary Naylor. “While you wait for Haruki Murakami's new work, I recommend the short story-adapted films 'Burning' and 'Drive My Car.' I've seen both four times and learned something new each time.”
Let's go back to soccer for a moment. Eddie Howe is playing with a little violin playing in the background.
I'm not going to say it was a great window here. I can't deny that it wasn't the window we were hoping for. [Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Newcastle’s majority owners] Things have changed since I took over. A lot has changed, both in terms of PSR and the need to follow the rules to avoid points deductions.
It affects the club's ability to move forward as quickly as we would have liked. I don't think the dream necessarily goes away, it just takes time. We have to build revenue streams and put more money into the club. That's the biggest thing we have to focus on over the next 10 years. [going to be] Who knows if we'll be lucky enough to see it. The dream isn't over yet, it's just going to take a lot longer.
“I recommend that you do like me and wait until Haruki Murakami's latest English edition hits the shelves in November.” Karen Assad wrote: “That's the outcome you were hoping for. A draw is the most likely outcome, but it could go either way.”
Thank you Karen, I am currently working my way through a Booker Prize winning novel and for you I have just finished the haunting and wonderful The Prophet's Song by Paul Lynch.
Live sports anywhere! If you don't want to spend time with me, go do something else.
There is one change at Newcastle The team that drew with Bournemouth last week: Harvey Barnes comes on for Jacob Murphy. Spurs make two changes to the team that won against Everton: Mickey van de Ven is replaced by Radu Dragusin and Brennan Johnson is on the bench, with Pape Sarr in the starting line-up.

preamble
Hello, hello, hello and welcome to our report from Spurs' trip to the North East. Both teams have four points from two games but the visitors have had more fun this season. Four (!) They beat Everton last weekend. Newcastle might still be sitting in their bedroom windows lamenting their failed bid for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi, waiting for the shot to be fired. Pop open an ice cream tub, put on some Harry Sally and just get over it.
The good news for the home side is that they've had some great times at home to Spurs over the past few seasons, winning 4-0 at St James' Park in April and thrashing them 6-1 the year before, with Alexander Isak scoring twice in both games. Isak is still waiting for his first goal this season but today feels like that day.
I will be with you until the end. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, questions, wisdom, darkest secrets, unpublished poems, book recommendations, etc.
