A Honduran national who recently arrived in the United States via the southern border is accused of assaulting his wife and child in the sanctuary state of Illinois.
Walter Sanchez Baquedano, 24, recently arrived in Illinois after crossing the border with his wife and two children. On October 28, Waukegan Police Department answered A call came from Mr. Sanchez-Baquedano’s residence and his wife was found crying and frightened.
According to his wife, Sanchez-Baquedano accused her of cheating on her and became violent with her. Lake County Deputy State’s Attorney Manuel Mandujano said Sanchez-Baquedano initially grabbed him by the plate and slammed him to the ground.
The couple’s 5-year-old child then begged him not to hit his mother, so Sanchez Baquedano allegedly kicked the child multiple times in the back and then punched his wife multiple times in the face.
Mandujano said the woman fought Sanchez-Baquedano away, and Sanchez walked away with her two children in her arms. Eventually, Mr. Sánchez-Baquedano returned to his official residence.
After his arrest, Sanchez-Baquedano was charged with four counts of domestic assault and is being held in the Lake County Jail ahead of a Dec. 18 trial.
Illinois is 1 of 12 States within the country that have implemented statewide protection policies to prevent illegal aliens who have committed crimes from being turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation.
