Newly released video shows the moment a passenger jet crashed into an aircraft at the gate at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in May.
Ohio airport reveals Fox 8Photos show a Delta jet slowly moving towards the gate after landing to unload passengers, trying to slip past a parked Spirit Airlines plane.
As the Delta flight was arriving at the terminal, it collided with a Spirit Airlines jet that was at the gate.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
However, Delta confirmed that one of its planes sustained damage to a wingtip.
“Airplanes are not designed for that kind of impact,” commercial pilot and flight instructor Robert Katz told the outlet.
Katz believes the video of the incident should spur more thorough inspections of the planes involved.
“Inspect all components that may have been directly or indirectly affected. Function, reliability and performance may all be impaired,” the private pilot told the news outlet.
“Everything on the plane has a purpose.”
According to FOX 8, the accident occurred in May, but is still under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Post has reached out to the FAA for comment.
The incident at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport highlighted a number of similar incidents that have occurred across the United States since the beginning of 2024.
In February, two JetBlue planes collided on a runway at Boston's Logan International Airport, disrupting travel plans for passengers on board.
One passenger, Dave Sauter, was traveling to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl and said the incident happened after the plane left the gate..
In April, a Swissair jet nearly collided with four other planes at JFK Airport after a communications error caused four planes to simultaneously enter the runway.
The Zurich-bound Swissair plane was cleared for takeoff on April 17 and began racing down the runway, but then slammed on the brakes when air traffic controllers realised they had made way for four other planes.
The FAA still Under investigation Incident.
The near-crash at JFK came just one day before two fully loaded passenger planes nearly crashed at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport outside Washington, DC.
The FAA reported that two planes were cleared to take off from the same runway at the same time at an airport in Virginia.
It took air traffic controllers about 30 seconds to realize the mistake.
They frantically pleaded with JetBlue and Southwest Airlines planes to stop before the collisions.
