Newsboys Deal Ends Amid Michael Tait Controversy

Breaking: Newsboys Dropped from Record Label Amid Scandal

The modern Christian music band, the Newsboys, has been dropped by Capitol Christian Music Group due to serious allegations involving former lead singer Michael Tait, including claims of sexual and substance abuse. Adam Agee has taken over as the new lead singer after Tait left under unexpected circumstances in January. The announcement was made during the Elevate Music Festival in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“As a result of everything that’s come out, we’ve been released from the label,” Agee stated. “We’ve seen radio stations pull our music, and promoters and venues around the world have canceled us.”

While standing on stage with his bandmates, Agee shared how they felt compelled by their faith to continue moving forward after Tait’s departure, who had confessed to leading a “double life.”

“People are aware that our former singer performed his last show with us last November,” Agee told the audience. “In January, he admitted he was living a double life and wanted to seek help…”

“We found ourselves asking, what’s next? After praying, we all felt that God was guiding us to move on. The crowd’s applause felt like a confirmation that we still had a mission.”

Although Agee acknowledged that Tait has been facing personal struggles, he mentioned that the band doesn’t fully grasp the extent of Tait’s alleged misconduct.

“It shocked us because this wasn’t the person we knew,” he said emotionally to the audience. “He was family to us, he was a brother and a friend to our kids.”

“It was devastating for us, and we felt as though we were dragged into this mess.”

Capitol Christian Music Group has since removed the Newsboys from their roster following Agee’s announcement. The fallout from Tait’s scandal has resulted in canceled radio airplay and upcoming tour dates. For instance, the Kingdom Bound Festival in New York recently replaced the Newsboys with another act on its schedule.

Additionally, K-Love, part of the Christian Radio Network, revealed earlier this month that all music associated with Tait, including his work with both the Newsboys and DC Talk, has been withdrawn in light of the allegations made against him.
