California Governor Faces Off Amid Protests

In a dramatic move, California Governor Gavin Newsom has escalated tensions in Los Angeles as he deployed 2,000 National Guard troops in response to violent protests against ICE. During an MSNBC interview on June 8, he boldly challenged President Trump and the acting director of ICE, Tom Homan. Newsom said, “Take me, arrest me. Let’s start over with the tough guy. I don’t care,” reacting to threats aimed at those blocking ICE operations in the city.

He framed the illegal immigrants targeted by ICE as “poor people trying to live their lives and pay taxes.” This statement raised eyebrows, particularly when referring to those arrested as “rapists, murderers—people who do not belong here,” according to Glenn Beck. It’s a tough pill to swallow for many, especially given that some of those detained had serious criminal records, including convictions for second-degree murder and rape.

In another discussion with Fox News, Newsom asserted that Trump’s true aim isn’t about national security but rather provoking a “civil war on the streets of America.” He suggested that deploying the National Guard was merely Trump testing the limits of his authority.

Beck took aim at Newsom’s comments, suggesting they reveal a deeper truth— that the radical left may be inciting a civil conflict. He criticized Democrats for projecting their intentions onto Trump, implying they might be the ones stirring unrest.

“[Democrats] want a civil war, and they’re testing their boundaries,” Beck stated. His co-host, Stu Burguiere, added that many protesting organizations in LA are openly advocating for uprisings. One such group, the Party of Socialism and Liberation, openly seeks to dismantle capitalism.

Another participant, Ron Gosches, who organized the protests, echoed Newsom’s sentiments, claiming intense community resistance resulted in factory workers escaping to go home. While neither insists they desire a revolution, their calls for action could easily be misinterpreted as paving the way for one. As Beck points out, such contradictions are the reality of the political landscape today.
