Newsom questioned by Kristen Welker about Biden's ability to serve

Newsom on Biden’s 2029 Presidency: Focus on Trump

During a recent interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” California Governor Gavin Newsom was asked by host Kristen Welker if he believed former President Joe Biden could effectively hold office until 2029. Newsom defended Biden, calling him one of the most successful presidents.

“Did you genuinely think he could serve until January 2029?” Welker inquired. Newsom responded, saying, “My priority was ensuring that Donald Trump doesn’t return to power. There was nothing in my interactions that indicated otherwise.”

Welker also addressed concerns among voters who feel misled by Democrats about Biden’s mental acuity, pressing Newsom on Kamala Harris’ campaign loss and whether Biden could have defeated Trump if he had stayed in the race.

Newsom, reflecting on the situation, mentioned that he does not want to assume the role of public opinion or speculation regarding Biden, emphasizing his personal rapport with the president.

He stated, “I won’t pretend to speak for anyone else; I know my interactions with him were positive and constructive.” The governor also speculated on past electoral challenges that contributed to Democratic setbacks, mentioning factors such as historical issues and organizational shortcomings.

Looking ahead, Newsom revealed that he is contemplating a presidential run after the 2026 midterm elections, although he quickly clarified, “I’m not suggesting I am running. I’m focused on addressing pressing issues like fair elections.”

In sharing his thoughts on current politics, he expressed concern over the future, implying that America could face significant challenges if Trump were to return to office.
