Newsom Emulates Trump’s Social Media Style

On Monday, the press office of California Governor Gavin Newsom aimed to draw attention by mimicking President Donald Trump’s distinctive social media style.

In a letter dated the same day, Newsom urged Trump to contact Texas Governor Greg Abbott and other leaders in conservative states to stop their constituency efforts ahead of the 2026 mid-term elections. He emphasized, “You’re playing with fire and risking our democracy’s stability. If you remain inactive, I may have to lead efforts to counteract the gerrymandering in red states by redrawing California’s maps. But if those states pause their changes, we’ll be willing to follow suit,” the letter stated.

The press office later shared a letter on social media, echoing a dramatic message that called out Trump, who frequently uses social media for presidential announcements. They added, “Thanks for keeping an eye on this issue!”

This latest instance showcases a prominent Democrat trying to craft a punchy, spontaneous online presence. Many Democrats are increasingly adopting emotional language in public statements to express anger and sound more credible.

According to reports, from February to June, Democrats outpaced Republicans in informal language usage. In June alone, they echoed GOP lawmakers’ sentiments over 100 times, demonstrating a strategic shift.

However, for Newsom and others, this imitation of Trump’s style may appear somewhat desperate rather than genuine, as they struggle to break through the social media noise.
