Gingrich Compares Political Shifts in History
On a recent appearance on Fox News, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich drew parallels between the decline of the Republican Party in the early 1930s and the current challenges faced by Democrats.
Despite the political upheaval surrounding him, President Donald Trump has turned the situation to his advantage, continuing to achieve victories even amidst adversity. During his segment on “Jesse Watters: Primetime,” Gingrich addressed the ongoing political shifts, noting that Republicans seem to be gaining traction with blue-collar workers and union-supportive voters.
“Perhaps we’ve come back to the years of ’33, ’34, ’35,” Gingrich remarked. “The Democrats have transitioned from a powerful political force to a small minority over several decades. It’s fascinating to see this unfold.”
He expressed that Republicans are benefitting from the increasing support of radical leftists, stating, “The Massachusetts Senators have fallen in line with this. [Zohran] Mamdani represents the future of the Democratic Party. For Republicans, it’s like Christmas every day.” He added with some surprise that such figures are impacting ordinary Americans in everyday life.
Teamsters President Sean O’Brien spoke out on Tuesday, claiming that Democrats are neglecting working Americans in favor of special interests and progressive agendas. He highlighted that about 60% of union members favored Trump over Harris and criticized Democrats for not engaging directly with voters.
Trump’s support among working-class demographics—white men, Black men, Hispanics, and Asian American and Pacific Island voters—has also seen an increase heading into 2024. Some analyses suggest that the GOP’s marketing strategies effectively portray former Vice President Kamala Harris and her party as extreme, which has helped boost Republican voter turnout.
