NFL 'Angry' at Eagles for Poor Handling of Jalen Hurts' Blood Clot Diagnosis

Controversy Surrounds Eagles’ Handling of Hurts’ Health Issue

Recently, even though the NFL has stated that its officials do not believe the Eagles mishandled quarterback Jalen Hurts’ blood-clot situation, insiders within the league are reportedly quite “furious” over the team’s lack of transparency regarding the incident.

As fans may remember, Hurts played after being diagnosed with superficial vein thrombosis in his left calf. However, the team later disclosed that he actually suffered from a season-ending deep vein thrombosis along with bilateral pulmonary emboli. This is a serious condition that could have been fatal if the blood clots had dislodged during gameplay.

Given the more serious diagnosis, many have questioned why the Eagles allowed Hurts to continue in that last game. Nevertheless, the NFL concluded that the team acted on advice from Hurts’s medical team and that the initial assessment did not pose immediate danger to his life, ultimately deciding against any disciplinary actions.

However, the National Football Players Association (NFLPA) is now pushing for further investigation into the matter, and the NFL has agreed to participate in this review, as reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

According to an insider from the Inquirer, league officials are particularly upset not only about the decision to let Hurts play but also regarding the team’s approach to communicating about his health.

During last week’s owners’ meeting in New York, Allen Sills, the NFL’s chief medical officer, attempted to clarify the situation yet maintained the league’s support for the decisions made regarding Hurts’ participation.

“The idea that there are outside influences or that our physicians would jeopardize a player’s safety — that’s absurd,” Sills remarked. He emphasized the diligence involved in Hurts’ care, mentioning that conservative measures and advanced imaging were conducted during a visit to London. He expressed confidence in the timing and decision-making involved, asserting that extensive caution was taken.

Sills also noted that the league doesn’t have any concerns about the timeline of Hurts’ treatment and stated that the team seemed to have adhered to medical guidance.

The main concern seems to revolve around the Eagles’ reluctance to openly discuss the incident, which has fueled ongoing frustration.

Overall, the fallout from how the Eagles dealt with this situation appears far from resolved.
