During the Seattle Seahawks’ 38-14 victory over the Washington Commanders, former Cincinnati Bengals player and NBC commentator Cris Collinsworth humorously referenced the ongoing government shutdown. This happened as the broadcast transitioned from the third quarter to the fourth, showing the U.S. Capitol in the background.
Collinsworth remarked, “It’s a quiet place,” which drew a laugh from his co-commentator, Mike Tirico. As the shutdown drags into its sixth week, President Trump expressed his belief in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes,” suggesting that Democrats will ultimately concede to Republican demands since there seems to be no negotiation occurring.
“I think we have to do that,” Trump stated, adding, “And if they don’t vote, that’s their problem.”
Meanwhile, in the game, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold made a remarkable start. He completed 17 consecutive passes before throwing an incompletion at the beginning of the third quarter. Darnold had an impressive four touchdown passes in the first half—two to Torrey Horton and one each to Cody White and Elijah Arroyo—leading Seattle to score 28 points before halftime.
In total, Darnold finished the game with 21 completions out of 24 attempts for 330 yards, although he did throw an interception in the second half. The Seahawks’ standout receiver was Jackson Smith-Njigba, who caught eight passes for 129 yards. Additionally, tight end AJ Varner scored a rushing touchdown.
On the other side, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels exited the game early due to a serious arm injury. He managed to complete 16 of 22 passes for 153 yards and one interception, also contributing a rushing touchdown, along with running back Chris Rodriguez.
By the end of the match, the Seahawks improved to 5 wins and 2 losses for the season, while the Commanders fell to a record of 3-5.
