NFL Bans Players Participating in the Super Bowl from Gambling, Even Slot Machines

With the Super Bowl scheduled to be held in Las Vegas this year, the NFL has lifted new gambling regulations, specifically banning players from playing slot machines in Sin City.

The first thing highlighted was front office sportsthe league has reportedly updated its gambling guidelines with a focus on activities in Las Vegas leading up to Super Bowl LVIII.

The rules were sent to teams in September, but the list has only now been made public.

“Players participating in the Super Bowl are prohibited from participating in any form of gambling, including casino games or wagering on any sports, while in Las Vegas,” NFL policy states. There is.

The rule only applies to players competing in Sunday's Super Bowl, not other players whose teams did not play in the big game but will play in Las Vegas.

Still, the rules prohibit all NFL players from placing sports bets on NFL games regardless. However, betting on other sports is allowed. However, participation in sportsbooks is prohibited until the Super Bowl game is over.

There is one exception. Players can “enter” the sportsbook if they happen to be walking from one location of the casino to another and need to pass through the sports betting section in the process.

Gambling is a sensitive issue for the NFL. Last June, four players were suspended for gambling, and three of them were dismissed from the team over the suspension.

Jim “Mattress Mack” McInvale, a 71-year-old Houston-based furniture store tycoon, is the NFL's leading gambler. Last year, he bet $2 million on the Cowboys to upset the 49ers in San Francisco. Needless to say, he lost that bet. However, even though Mack is well-known for his sports betting, he did not bet on the 2023 Super Bowl between the Eagles and Chiefs.
