NFL bettors hammering Lions vs. 49ers in NFC Championship game

It's the hottest bet of conference championship weekend.

Do you believe in the Detroit Lions?

BetMGM Sportsbook tells the Post that the most popular bet this weekend in terms of ticket count is Lions ML (+260 tickets), followed by Lions +7 tickets.

An astonishing 72% of Lions vs. 49ers bets are on Detroit, and 71% of the actual winnings are on Lions.

The betting public is loving the underdog story this weekend.

But the biggest concern will be the Lions' defense, which looked terrible against the pass late in the season.

The Lions were crushed by opposing wide receivers, with Mike Evans racking up 147 receiving yards last week and Puka Nacua gaining 181 yards the week before that.

Prior to that, Justin Jefferson gained 192 yards in Week 18, and CeeDee Lamb's 227 receiving yards in Week 17 was the third-most in a single game this season.

However, Deebo Samuel may not suit up for the 49ers in the NFC Conference Championship Game, so expect soon-to-be free agent Brandon Aiyuk to be a key factor in Sunday's game.

Poor defensive play lends itself to betting on the over, with 71% of handles totaling more than 51 points, as reported by BetMGM.

Now let's move on to the 49ers' run defense, which allowed Packers running back Aaron Jones 6 yards per carry.

The Lions are seventh in the league in rushing yards per game (131.8) and fifth in the NFL in yards per carry (4.5) behind the duo of David Montgomery and Jahmil Gibbs.

Dan Campbell's group has the worst odds of any remaining team to win the Super Bowl, coming in at +800 to win the final two games of the season.
