NFL Competition Committee Proposes Expansion of Replay Assist for Certain Penalties

It is on the NFL Competition Committee suggestion It expands the scope of replays and allows for reviews of “specific and objective aspects of the play.”

What does that mean?

If adopted, the penalty for hits by unprotected players in the 2025 season means that face masks, horse collar tackles, stumbling, running around, wandering, and running will be subject to review and could potentially capsize.

The proposal will only extend to penalties called on the field, not to consider “overlooked” penalties or to consider the penalties that teams think should be made.

Teams will have the opportunity to vote for the proposal at next week's league meeting.

Passerby passersby and rough passersby were notable absent from the list of calls to be reviewed. Whether offensive or defensive, there are few calls that have a more important effect on determining during live action than passers-based or rough interference.

The NFL has long prioritized quarterback protection, so it's no surprise that it's trolling passersby and not included in the proposal. Pass interference is common during the game, so the league probably wouldn't include it from a play perspective.

If 24 of the 32 teams vote to hire, the rules will be in effect.
