NFL Considering Rule Change for Overtime in 2025 Regular Season

Don't look at it now, but the NFL is once again considering changing its overtime rule format.

Specifically, the league is looking for consistency to solve the Thai game by making the rules of overtime in the regular and postseasons the same.

“In the postseason, overtime is quite different. Postseason overtime is 15 minutes long, with both teams guaranteed ownership. If the game is tied up after both teams own the ball, the next score wins.”

Since 2011, teams that have won overtime toss have won the game for 56%, so the outcome of the game is increasingly determined by coin flips. This scenario is unacceptable to most fans, players, coaches and owners. They invest millions of dollars and thousands of hours in regular season contest results.

It's good to see the league finally doing something about it,
