Concerns Over Texas Quarterback Arch Manning
An assistant general manager in the NFL is expressing skepticism about the buzz surrounding Texas quarterback Arch Manning.
Manning, the nephew of famed quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, ranks fifth in ESPN’s latest quarterback rankings for the 2027 NFL Draft. An anonymous executive from the AFC voiced doubts about why there is such “blind faith” in Manning’s potential.
“What’s behind this blind faith that suggests he has such a high ceiling?” questioned the assistant GM. “Perhaps what we’re seeing now is just who he is as a prospect.”
Manning, returning for his redshirt junior season after a disappointing performance in 2025, is leading the Longhorns to a No. 1 ranking in the AP Top 25 with a perfect 4-0 record as they head into a big matchup against Florida this Saturday.
He has completed 73 out of 115 passes, with seven touchdowns and three interceptions, totaling 862 passing yards. Manning also played a key role in securing a significant win over Ohio State earlier this season.
With his family lineage, expectations were high when Manning arrived at Texas, positioning him as a top prospect for next year’s draft. An AFC scout noted that “someone will likely fall in love with his potential in a few years.”
“His name will always change the way he’s evaluated,” the scout noted. “I don’t think he’s the best in this class, but there are flashes of talent that are promising for the future.”
However, Manning’s inconsistencies as Texas’ starting quarterback have cast a shadow on his draft prospects.
In ESPN’s rankings, other quarterbacks like Drew Mestemaker from Oklahoma State, Darian Mensah from Miami, Trinidad Chambliss from Ole Miss, and CJ Carr from Notre Dame were rated above Manning. The analysis pointed to his lengthy throwing time of 2.95 seconds and an off-target throw percentage of 9.8 as notable criticisms.
Manning’s next opportunity to boost his draft stock is against No. 16 Florida, who recently dropped to the eighth spot after a significant loss to Missouri.
Eli Manning, in a recent interview on Barstool’s “Pardon My Take,” revealed that he “selfishly” hopes Arch is picked by the Jets in the upcoming draft, as that would keep him close to family during games.
Earlier this season, Manning found himself at the center of controversy when he mentioned an AI-generated video depicting Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian abruptly ending a postgame interview with ESPN reporter Holly Rowe. Manning later issued an apology to Rowe.
