NFL Fans Irate After Referee Bill Vinovich Appeared to Apologize to Josh Allen for Bad Call

Bills fans and players voiced their frustration Sunday after officials overlooked a blatant pass interference call on Denver's Pat Surtain II that could have cost Buffalo a touchdown.

A foul that would have occurred in the end zone would have given the Bills the lead. Instead, they had to settle for a field goal. Bills quarterback Josh Allen was visibly upset by the call, just as the fans were visibly upset.

But what happened next was really strange. Referee Bill Vinovich apparently walked to Buffalo's sideline to apologize to Josh Allen for the bad call.

It may be unprecedented to see NFL officials go not only to the sidelines but also to the benches to discuss calls with players. This is at least a very rare occurrence, and one that has angered many on social media.

There's a lot to be said for people who have the integrity to admit their mistakes. But unless you go to each sideline and apologize to each quarterback for every missed call (no one does that), you shouldn't do that. If he doesn't, he will be accused of the very same favoritism that fans are now accusing Vinovic of.

Regardless, the Bills defeated the Broncos 31-7 and will advance to the AFC Divisional Round, where they will face the Ravens.
