NFL Game Concludes with Moving Moment of Prayer Following Serious Injury

Prayer and Unity at NFL Game After Injury

What started as a tense moment during an NFL preseason game between the Detroit Lions and the Atlanta Falcons turned into a touching display of solidarity. The incident occurred when Lions cornerback Morris Norris sustained a serious injury while tackling an opponent. Medical staff quickly rushed to his aid, and, within moments, a backboard was brought out. After about 20 minutes, he was taken off the field by ambulance.

At that point, the Lions were leading 17-10 with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Instead of resuming play, players from both teams gathered in the center of the field, forming a circle while the crowd erupted in support. They bowed their heads for a moment of prayer. Ultimately, the NFL staff and the teams decided to call off the game.

This is powerful. The Atlanta Falcons confiscated the snap and ended the down with prayer in a preseason game vs. Detroit after Lions safety Morris Norris stretched out after a serious head injury.

Many others shared their prayers as well. Former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III commented on social media, urging followers to pray for Norris. After the game, Detroit head coach Dan Campbell expressed relief that Norris was breathing and able to move. On Monday, Campbell announced that Norris had been released from the hospital and had returned to the team facility, though he remains under concussion protocol.

“It’s good to get him back. He’s good,” Campbell said. “We’ll take it day by day and reevaluate in 10 to 14 days.”

Norris played college football at Fresno State before signing with the Lions as a practice squad player after going undrafted in 2024. He has since been promoted to the active roster and participated in two games last season. Norris has openly talked about his Christian faith on social media. Interestingly, just hours before the game, he posted a prayer on his Instagram story, encouraging others to “Trust Jesus for the rest of the day.”

“When we think about the future, life can feel uncertain, but Jesus calls us to trust Him in every step we take,” Norris wrote. “He already knows what’s coming and there’s nothing to surprise him. Once we let go of our worries and place our confidence in him, we can move forward in peace instead of fear.”

He also shared scripture, including a passage from Proverbs 3:5, emphasizing reliance on faith.
