The NFL is investigating a prank call made to Chedur Sanders during a quarterback slide down the draft board on Friday night.
The league is looking into how the quarterback’s private phone number was leaked, ESPN reported, and Sanders thought he was talking to Saints general manager, Mickey Loomis.
Sanders was considered one of the top prospects available in the draft, but after he fell into the fifth round, the Browns were taken with an overall selection of 144.
As the slide continues on day two, a social media video showed Sanders making a call early in the second round from someone who claims he is a loo miss.
“It’s been a long wait,” the person said. “We’ll take the next pick, Man, but you’ll have to wait a little longer, man. Sorry.”
When the phone ended, the son of Dion Sanders, the 23-year-old Hall of Fame and current Colorado coach, told people at the draft party, “What does that mean?”
Sanders also said he “didn’t know what it was” because he was given a private phone call for the draft and only the selected NFL rep had that number.
The Saints would choose Louisville quarterback Tyler Schaff on the 40th pick, and Sanders later claimed he was over the false call on a conference call.
“It really didn’t affect me,” Sanders told reporters.
“You saw it with Dion [Sanders] Jr.’s YouTube video. My reaction to that is, I am not – it is what it is. Of course, I think it’s childish. Of course, I find it a childish act, but everyone is doing something childish here and there. ”
Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski called the situation “sad” and labeled the trick the person who drew “moron.”
The Browns also selected Oregon quarterback Dilongabriel in the third round (94th) on Friday night.
An unverified video appeared on social media on Saturday.
As the end of the call ends, the group breaks out with laughter, with one person in the room screaming that Sanders “buyed it.”
