NFL news: Ashton Jeanty shares he was tricked on draft night

Ashton Jeanty, a draft pick for the Las Vegas Raiders, recently shared his experience with a prank call that affected many NFL prospects. In a podcast interview, he mentioned that the call came after he was drafted, where jokesters informed him that he had been traded to the Dallas Cowboys. He recounted his reaction vividly: “I just hung up, buddy. I was like, ‘Come on, buddy.’”

Before entering the draft, Jeanty expressed his childhood dream of playing for the Cowboys, having grown up in Frisco, Texas, and even working for the team at one point.

He said, “I want to play for the Cowboys. It’s going to be like a dream come true. Honestly, I’m going to feel like I’m home.” He even reminisced about practicing at their stadium during high school. While the Cowboys were his top choice, he acknowledged that the Raiders were a solid alternative.

Jeanty isn’t alone in being targeted by pranksters; one of the more notorious incidents involved Chedur Sanders, who fell to the fifth round. It was later revealed that a prankster involved was actually the son of the Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator.

In the wake of these incidents, the Falcons faced a hefty $250,000 fine, while the coach received a $100,000 penalty. It’s a curious situation, really—definitely adds a twist to the competitive atmosphere of the draft.
