NFL news: DeAndre Hopkins joins Ravens on 1-year deal

Multiple reports say Lamar Jackson has a new target to throw at Baltimore as the Ravens agreed to work with veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on Tuesday.

The NFL Network reported that the Hopkins deal was worth $6 million a year.

Hopkins, who will be 33 when the 2025 season begins, traveled to the Super Bowl LIX this year with the Kansas City Chiefs (his first appearance in “The Big Game”) after being traded by the Tennessee Titans before the NFL deadline during the 2024 campaign.

Throughout 10 games against Kansas City, Hopkins added 41 receptions with 41 touchdowns. On the postseason run to New Orleans, Hopkins scored a touchdown in three games, but only three catches for 29 yards.

This stage in his career, Hopkins is about to enter his 13th NFL season.

The Ravens are one of the best teams in the AFC, with Jackson in particular at the helm of the offense. The two league MVPs have improved significantly in the passing game, and the team has consistently been looking for a better receiver to pair with him to increase offensive production.

For Hopkins, Baltimore will be his fourth team in the past four seasons. The five-time Pro Bowler has played for the Arizona Cardinals, Titans and Chiefs since the 2022 campaign.

However, there is no doubt that Hopkins will be able to score a total of 1,057 yards for seven touchdowns during his 2023 season with the Titans. He signed free agency on a two-year, $26 million deal before signing the team and first team.

However, Hopkins' best season came after being selected 27th overall by the Houston Texans from Clemson in 2013. The 2014 season was a breakout year for dynamic receivers. He tallied 76 catches for 1,210 yards with six touchdowns. He followed it in his first Pro Bowl season: 1,521 yards with 111 catches for Houston's 111 touchdowns.

Hopkins has been making four straight pro bowls since 2017-2020. The final result was 1,407 yards with 115 receptions and six touchdowns.

This one-year agreement with AAVs, lower than he's used to throughout his career, is the definition of a proof transaction, but it's also an opportunity to return to the Super Bowl.

Hopkins joins the bulldozing that runs through Derrick Henry as a valuable offensive weapon for the Ravens, potentially the talented Zai Flower, Rushed Bateman, Mark Andrews, and of course.
