Shedeur Sanders’ Draft Fall: Ongoing Discussions
Discussions surrounding Shedeur Sanders’ unexpected drop in the 2025 NFL Draft continued even a week after the Cleveland Browns chose a quarterback in the fifth round. Many current and former players, along with critics, have been grappling with why someone initially predicted to be a top pick ended up significantly lower on the draft board.
ESPN NFL Draft Analyst Matt Miller offered insight into what might have contributed to this situation. He noted that he didn’t think Sanders and his team navigated the draft process effectively. “I felt like they made some missteps,” Miller commented, indicating he had faced criticism for suggesting on air that Sanders should participate in the NFL Scouting Combine. “He really should have taken the chance to throw there, and he should have considered working at the Shrine Game. Getting NFL exposure is crucial if you accept those invites.”
Moreover, Miller expressed that he believes Sanders might be overrated as a player. He elaborated, mentioning that while Sanders possesses talent, he doesn’t rank among the very top talents available in this draft.
“I’ve received a lot of messages regarding the ESPN video,” Miller shared. “Honestly, I think he, well, yes, I do see him as maybe overrated based on the skills he has. He wasn’t among the top two or three players in this class. The draft process can really be humbling for everyone involved.” He emphasized that approaching the process improperly could be detrimental to a player’s prospects.
Despite the critics, Sanders has a chance to prove doubters wrong, competing for a position against players like Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel. Interestingly, Deshaun Watson may miss the entire 2025 season due to an Achilles injury he sustained during the offseason.
