The Los Angeles Chargers will face the Detroit Lions at the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio on July 31st, the Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
This is the first time an NFL preseason game has been played in July since 2000.
Former charger tight end Antonio Gates was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame on August 2, alongside cornerback Eric Allen, defensive end Jared Allen and wide receiver Sterling Sharp.

The Lions will advance to 15-2 last season and become the NFC’s No. 1 seed before becoming the game’s designated home team. They were upset in a surprising way by Washington commanders in the split round.
After the defeat, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn set out for head coaching work. Johnson joined the Chicago Bears, a rival in the Lions division, and Glenn took the New York Jets head coaching position.

As for the Chargers, they went 11-6, finishing their first season with manager Jim Harbaugh’s team and ended their campaign with a playoff. They lost in the wild card round to the Houston Texans, a game that quarterback Justin Herbert struggled hard.
In a regular season game of over 17, Herbert threw three intercepts, but with the Chargers’ 32-12 playoff loss, he threw a career-high four interceptions.

This is the Lions’ fourth trip to Canton and the Chargers’ third trip. Detroit last played in the game in 1991, beating the Denver Broncos 14-3. The Chargers’ final appearance was a 21-17 loss for the Atlanta Falcons in 1994.
