NFL player reacts strongly after priest is accused of pornography

NFL Player Challenges Church Priest Over Allegations

Jake McCoid, an NFL player, stood up during a church service, pressing for clarity regarding claims that a priest had viewed pornography on a parish computer. Local news sources indicate that a whistleblower has made this awkward allegation concerning a laptop associated with a priest-led parish.

Members from a nearby church in Greentownship, Ohio shared that, in March, the whistleblower and his wife received “intrusive images” allegedly stemming from their laptop. “Did the priest use our parish computer to watch porn?” was asked explicitly.

According to Todd Zureick, another parishioner, a thumbnail directing to “porn sites” and “links to virtual reality role-playing websites with themes of sexual assault and occult practices” were discovered on the laptops. He filed a formal complaint with the archdiocese in April.

The resulting accusations led the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Jason Williams to visit Our Lady of Visits. During a Saturday Mass, he read a letter from Archbishop Robert Casey, addressing the ongoing investigation. He noted, “Several concerns have drawn the attention of the archdiocese, which have been investigated, and no criminal or ecclesiastical misconduct has been demonstrated. Thus, spreading rumors, like gossip, is sinful, and we should all strive to overcome this tendency.”

In that moment, former Miami Dolphins player McCoid interjected, prompting a scene that was broadcast live from the church. “Please, take a moment. I want to break from these rumors. Can you answer this for me… fact or fiction?” he asked, as recorded.

Williams seemed to respond, hinting that it wasn’t the right moment for such inquiries. However, McCoid insisted, “Sorry, sir, this is the time and place. I’ll stand up. Did the priest use our parish computer to watch porn?… True or false?!” His frustration grew as more parishioners approached him.

He expressed that while people might view porn at home, it shouldn’t happen in church. McCoid indicated he had seen the alleged image and felt compelled to bring it up.

Meanwhile, police officers present at the service approached McCoid, with one officer even escorting him down the aisle. According to Captain Mitch Hill from Greentownship police, the officers had been invited for general security due to anticipated confusion stemming from the situation.

When asked about the confrontation, Hill clarified that McCoid was not charged with any crime, indicating that any removal from the church was temporary and that he was allowed to return home afterward.

As for the priest at the center of the allegations, the Archdiocese confirmed that he remains in good standing and no official investigations have been initiated. He is set to go on a previously planned sabbatical in July.

Regarding the pornographic claims, the Archdiocese stated that the priest did not utilize parish computers for such purposes. Hill added that merely viewing porn does not constitute a crime and that no complaints from parishioners had been formally submitted.

The Archdiocese did not respond to additional requests for comments related to the incident.
