NFL power rankings for Week 3: Plenty of movement

The NFL was thrown into chaos earlier than normal.

The Vikings, Chargers, Saints and Seahawks all missed the playoffs last season but are undefeated after two games.

Chargers coach John Harbaugh is welcoming him back to the NFL.

Seahawks coach Mike McDonald, welcome to the big boy chair.

Welcome to your release from the misery, Saints coach Dennis Allen.

Meanwhile, many of the teams considered Super Bowl contenders, including the 49ers, Lions, Eagles, Bengals and Ravens, have gotten off to a slow start.

What is clear, of course, is that the Chiefs, who have won back-to-back Super Bowls, once again look to be the strongest team.

For now at least.

Below are The Post’s power rankings for Week 3. Several teams are making bigger moves than at any other time this season.

1. Chiefs 2-0 (1)

The Chiefs got a second lease of life after a defensive pass interference penalty on fourth down and 16 yards allowed Harrison Butler to hit a 51-yard walk-off field goal to beat the Bengals 26-25.

Patrick Mahomes passed for 151 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

This marks the 1st straight season-opening win against an AFC championship contender that was decided on the final play.

2. Texans 2-0 (6)

Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked four long-range field goals, three of which came from 53 yards or further, and the defense recorded two interceptions in the second half to beat the Bears 19-13.

Nico Collins surpassed 100 yards receiving (135) for the second straight game, helping to offset a rushing attack that was slowed by Joe Mixon's ankle injury.

3. Bills 2-0 (9)

James Cook had two touchdown runs and one catch, and Josh Allen, the superman who threw four touchdowns despite being injured in Week 1, was thankfully a reserve in a 31-10 win over the Dolphins.

The main talking point of the game was the recent concussion suffered by Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Allen improved to 12-2 all-time against the Dolphins.

4. 49ers 1-1 (2)

Brock Purdy threw for 319 yards, Jordan Mason ran for 100 and Fred Warner forced two turnovers, but the 49ers could not recover from Justin Jefferson's 97-yard touchdown catch in a 23-17 loss to the Vikings.

What am I doing wrong?

Former 49ers backup quarterback Sam Darnold hit the long ball.

The 49ers were 3 of 13 on third and fourth downs.

5. Buccaneers 2-0 (14)

In a playoff rematch, Baker Mayfield got revenge against the Lions with a 20-16 victory.

He ran for an 11-yard touchdown and completed a 41-yard touchdown pass to Chris Godwin.

The Buccaneers defense recorded two interceptions and made two stops in the final minutes, including one at the 6-yard line with 53 seconds left.

6. Lions 1-1 (4)

Coach Dan Campbell sent both the offensive and special teams on the field at the same time, and that “big mistake” cost the Lions their loss to the Buccaneers.

Jared Goff allowed two interceptions and missed two more passes, which could have increased his interception total to four.

All of this overshadowed Aidan Hutchinson's incredible five-sack game, including three in the first quarter.

7. Eagles 1-1 (5)

Saquon Barkley throws a pass, Saquon Barkley steals it, and the Falcons lose, 22-21.

A great second-effort play by Barkley resulted in two points in the fourth quarter, but a bad drop by Barkley stalled the clock late in the game, and then the Eagles defense couldn't stop a six-play, 70-yard touchdown drive that sealed the win.

The tush push was working fine.

Jalen Hurts' pitching was not like that.

8. Packers 1-1 (7)

Josh Jacobs carried the ball 32 times for 151 yards, helping backup quarterback Malik Willis get his first win in place of the injured Jordan Love.

The Packers ran the ball on 53 of their 67 offensive snaps against the Colts, winning 16-10.

Willis threw his first career touchdown pass after three lackluster starts so far in his Titans career.

9. Jets 1-1 (10)

Braylon Allen, the NFL's youngest player, scored his first two career touchdowns, including a fourth-quarter tiebreaker, in a 24-17 win over the Titans.

Will McDonald had three sacks, which came at a good time for a defensive line that was short-staffed given Haason Reddick was out and Jermaine Johnson was dealing with a torn Achilles.

Aaron Rodgers earned his first win with the Jets.

10. Steelers 2-0 (15)

Russell Wilson missed the rematch against the Broncos due to a calf strain.

But Wilson's Steelers got a touchdown pass from Justin Fields and the defense held them scoreless until the third quarter, beating the Broncos 13-6.

Kicker Chris Boswell is second in the NFL in scoring and has accounted for 25 of the team's 31 points so far.

The Giants became the first team in NFL history to score three touchdowns and lose in regulation without allowing a touchdown.

The under-fire offense did its job with Daniel Jones scoring two touchdowns and Malik Neighbors catching 10 passes, but the defense, special teams and coaching staff all faltered in a 21-18 loss to the Commanders, who made seven field goals.

32. Panthers 0-2 (32)
