NFL quarterback Justin Fields aims to become a missionary and assist others in discovering Christ.

An NFL quarterback, who was a first-round draft pick, has expressed that his future after football might lead him toward a mission field instead of a conventional route like golfing or broadcasting.

Justin Fields, who was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2021, has experienced a mixed five-season career across three teams, including his current one, the New York Jets. As he looks towards 2026, he feels a clear sense of what he wants to pursue post-football.

“I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and people ask me this question a lot. I want to be a missionary,” Fields shared. His comments were featured on a podcast.

At 27, Fields is known for being one of the most vocal Christians in the NFL.

He elaborated, “I want to travel to different countries, spread the word of God, and help people find Christ. I want to assist those who lack the opportunity to build relationships. I’ve talked to some friends about potentially going to Africa, to places where these connections are hard to come by.” It seems that this is a path he genuinely wants to pursue.

Fields underscored his desire to make a difference. “I just love helping people and being of service. I think it would be fulfilling to enter a field like that. I’m not really sure what form that will take—maybe working with young kids—but I definitely want to go on a mission trip. Those experiences can really help bring people closer to Christ.”

This calling has always been a passion for him, he said.

Faith is a frequent topic for Fields, and he references it in both good and tough times.

“Nothing really bothers me. It’s just my bond with the Lord,” he stated after a narrow loss last season.

Last fall, he reflected, “I’ve always asked God for the chance to share His message, even when things don’t go as planned. Right now, being in this position feels like an excellent opportunity to spread that message and share my feelings about God and His greatness.”
