NFL Honors Marshawn Kneeland
The NFL is requesting that all teams observe a moment of silence on Sunday in remembrance of Dallas Cowboys rookie, Marshawn Kneeland, who tragically passed away last week, according to reports from ESPN.
On Friday, a memo will be sent out to teams emphasizing the moment of silence. Additionally, there will be a message displayed on the jumbotron saying, “If you or someone you know is struggling or in need of emotional support, please call or text 988. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7.”
Kneeland died early Thursday morning, shortly after making his first NFL appearance on Monday night. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Frisco Police Department have confirmed that managing a high-speed chase ended with Kneeland suffering a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.
His agent, Jonathan Pursley, reminisced about Kneeland’s spirit and dedication in a heartfelt statement. Pursey reflected on Kneeland’s journey from being a hopeful child with dreams of joining the Cowboys to becoming a professional player. “Marshawn poured his heart into every snap and every moment on the field. Losing someone with his talent and goodness is incredibly painful,” he expressed.
Reportedly, police attempted a traffic stop around 10:33 p.m. but Kneeland did not stop, leading to a pursuit that eventually ended when police could no longer track him. His vehicle was later found abandoned, with police saying that Kneeland appeared to have fled on foot. During the search, officers learned he had been showing suicidal thoughts.
Kneeland was drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, selected 56th overall, and was in his second season with the Cowboys. His untimely passing occurred just days after he scored his first NFL touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.
