NFL teams call Panthers about Bryce Young trade after benching

Bryce Young was benched by the Panthers this week, but several teams have already expressed interest in a trade for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft. According to ESPN:.

Panthers coach Dave Canales said the team has no plans to trade the 23-year-old Young, and veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will start in Young's place for Sunday's game against the Raiders.

However, the Panthers have “received contact from several teams,” while other teams are “exploring trades within their own organizations for Young,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported.

He added that league sources believe it's only a matter of time before Carolina “signs a second-year quarterback,” but likely “at some point this offseason.”

Young is 2-16 as a starter since the Panthers selected him first overall out of the University of Alabama in a trade with the Bears last year.

One pick later, the Texans acquired 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year quarterback CJ Stroud.

Young has more interceptions (13) than touchdowns (11) in his pro career, but has completed just 59 percent of his passes.

Through two games this season, the Panthers have allowed 245 total passing yards, worst in the league.

In recent years, several highly drafted quarterbacks have been traded for little in return, including Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Trey Lance and Zach Wilson.
