NFL Team’s Choice to Swap Women for Male Cheerleaders Turns Out Poorly

Minnesota Vikings Hire Male Cheerleaders, Fans React

The Minnesota Vikings are moving ahead with hiring two male cheerleaders, Blaize Shiek and Louie Conn, but many fans are expressing their discontent.

In response to criticism, the Vikings released a statement defending their decision, noting that male cheerleaders have been a part of their team’s history as well as college cheerleading for quite some time. “We support all cheerleaders and are proud of the role they play as ambassadors of the organization,” they stated.

Desiree wrote on Twitter, “I don’t care how the NFL spins… this isn’t cool.”

A tweet highlighted that the Minnesota Vikings replaced two female cheerleaders with male ones for the 2025-26 season.

It’s true that various NFL teams have included male cheerleaders for years, but the new hires, perhaps, don’t fit the traditional image many might have of cheerleaders.

That raises a bigger question: why would the Vikings opt to go this route? Most of the NFL’s passionate fanbase is male, often straight and family-oriented. Doesn’t that risk alienating those core supporters?

Are they trying to cater to a different audience, perhaps online progressives and journalists? It’s a tricky scenario—it’s not exactly a “cancel culture” moment, but hiring male cheerleaders might be seen as a questionable decision that could alienate certain fans.
