Connor McDavid Faces His Ketchup Fears

NHL superstar Connor McDavid finally addressed his long-standing aversion to ketchup following a game where the Edmonton Oilers lost 3-2 to the Calgary Flames.

During a postgame session on Sportsnet’s “After Hours,” McDavid opened up about his unusual dislike for condiments, which caught the attention of fans who were curious about how he manages this quirk while on the road.

He shared that his teammates quickly learned to avoid bringing ketchup near him. When asked how this all started, McDavid reflected on his childhood experience, drawing a familial connection. “Honestly, it comes from my childhood. My brother is the same. I don’t know where it came from. I’m going to blame him. He’s worse than me,” he explained with a hint of humor.

Interestingly, McDavid couldn’t pinpoint anything he actually liked about ketchup. “I don’t know what it is. The texture, the look, everything. … I think it’s a phobia, yeah,” he admitted, revealing the extent of his discomfort.

This little-known fact about him was initially brought to light by McDavid’s wife, Lauren, on Amazon’s “FACEOFF: Inside the NHL.” It seems that even last year, he emphasized that this issue mainly evolved between him and his brother while growing up.

In a humorous twist, Heinz Ketchup’s Canadian social media channels had previously poked fun at McDavid for his aversion.
