Nick Pivetta signing four-year, $55 million contract with Padres

The Padres added right-handed Nick Pivetta to their steady pitcher on Thursday night, John Heyman confirmed the post.

Pibetta has signed with San Diego on a four-year, $55 million contract after spending part of the last five seasons in Boston.

This transaction comes with an opt-out pair. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Opt-out comes after the second and third year trading.

He also receives a $3 million signature bonus.

Pibetta will be paid $1 million in 2025, $19 million in 2026, $14 million in 2027 and $18 million in the final year of the transaction.

Pibetta pitched 145 2/3 innings in 27 appearances. Of these, 26 started.

The right-hander has been one of the league's most reliable pitchers over the past four seasons, holding a 4.33 ERA in 156 innings average.

Once the Padres signed Pibetta, the Red Sox are now entitled to the comp. Round B selection in the 2025 draft (77th overall).

San Diego branches out $500,000 from the second-highest draft pick and the international bonus pool.

But the question is how the signature will affect the status of Padres pitcher Dylan being a potential trade target for the Mets trade.

The suspension returns to the trade bloc for the second year in a row, entering the final year of his contract this season.
